Fwd Mid Fuse Side Structure 29-04 to 29-06

With the structure up on its side we were able to get on with riveting the joins together. It’s a complicated little pattern which slowed us down constantly referring to the rivet layout.

I had already set the Cherry rivets which are a workout in themselves. Extension to the pop riveter handles would have been useful.

I had broken the edges of the floor panels as instructed. I wasn’t sure if the bend was enough as the floor panel is quite thick but I was really pleased how these closed up when riveted. Some of the 426-3 are really hard to reach so I broke out the RV14 special rivet bar.

Finished item, one side….lack of riveting assistance strikes again.

I got on with trimming the longerons and then twisting as per instructions. First, you need to do a little carpentry to make blocks that fit inside.

My spray bay V2 didn’t last a NE of Scotland summer let alone what we are experiencing now so spray bay V3 has been installed.

Inside lined with polythene and extraction system installed. I use water based primer so a small heater is perfectly safe. Should have done this from the start but you live and learn. You can never have enough sheds….Mrs C is not so keen…

Really enjoyed your RV14 diary … well done. Especially impressed with your dedication to getting your RV14 completed. Looking forward to your first flight.
    All the best,

  2. I’ve been working my way through the fuselage. Nice to see all the steps laid out before I jump in. Alas, now I’m nearly caught up!
