{"id":214,"date":"2017-05-06T18:38:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-06T17:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/index.php\/2017\/05\/06\/rudder-07-06-to-07-09\/"},"modified":"2017-05-06T18:38:00","modified_gmt":"2017-05-06T17:38:00","slug":"rudder-07-06-to-07-09","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/index.php\/2017\/05\/06\/rudder-07-06-to-07-09\/","title":{"rendered":"Rudder 07-06 to 07-09"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inner skins primed and masked for tape in trailing edge. &nbsp;Started to back rivet the stiffeners to the skins. &nbsp;Back riveting should be fairly straightforward unless you slip off the plate and dent the skin &#8211; cue colourful language. &nbsp;Quick call to another 14 builder (thanks Robbie) and he suggested dimpling the skin again with the c-frame to push the dent inwards. &nbsp;It worked. &nbsp;Not perfect but I think it will be fine and I will wait to see what my inspector says.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1610.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1610.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-210\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1610.jpg 2000w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1610-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1610-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1610-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nNext step is to blind rivet the shear clips to the stiffeners &#8211; no jeopardy here as long as you put them up the right way.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1609.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1609.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-211\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1609.jpg 2000w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1609-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1609-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1609-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFinal stage is to stick the trailing edge wedge to the skin using the tape called out by Vans. &nbsp;Not an easy tape to find but I found the 3M double sided tape on eBay of all places. &nbsp;Now for the fun, the skins come together and the stiffeners need to be blind riveted to the shear clips in three places. &nbsp;To do this you have to bend the skin back on one side and access each set of stiffeners. &nbsp;Not easy unless you have small hands but we managed. &nbsp;You have to cleco the the trailing edge as you go, peeling back the tape backing so you get a good join.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1611.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1611.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-212\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1611.jpg 2000w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1611-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1611-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vansrv14.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_1611-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe trailing edge looks reasonably straight, not perfect but the edges are nicely joined. I think I bent the wedge a little while we were fighting to get the stiffeners together.
